  • Sa Dihang Ang Skechers Ni Sulong Sa Cebu (Skechers Invades Cebu)

Last March 24, 2012, Skechers had their Running Essentials by Michelle Estuar at the Ayala Center Cebu and we were there to witness the event.

    Michelle Estuar
Michelle Obligacion and Kaye Ko, Marketing Associates for Skechers
with Ms. Bernice Bobadlilla, Marketing Manager

Below is their official presser for the event:

    Skechers GOrun launches

mid-foot strike running clinic in Cebu

Skechers GOrun introduced Running Essentials to Cebu last March 24, 2012 at the Activity Center of Ayala Center Cebu after two successful legs in Manila last February 18 and March 3, 2012 at Skechers Market! Market!

Fitness Expert Michelle Estuar and her team of ultrarunners led the free clinic with the aim of teaching runners proper running technique particularly mid-foot striking.

According to Estuar, “observing good running techniques is extremely important for every runner. These techniques allow runners to enjoy every run as they are able to improve their overall performance and lessen injuries that will keep them off the road.”

Estuar also shared some of the most important techniques that runners should remember.  Below are helpful tips that beginners and professionals runners can keep in mind to enjoy a great run:

Warm up, cool down and stretch – Before and after the start of any run, be sure to engage in warm-up exercises. If muscles are properly warmed up, the strain on muscles, tendons, and joints is reduced. A combination of sustained and steady stretches, not forced, is perfect to help loosen the muscles.

Check your upper body – Make sure to maintain good posture while running by keeping your shoulders back and down and keeping your body upright. A good posture enables the lungs to expand fully and in turn, allows you to breathe deeply.

Be aware of your breathing- Whether you’re a leisure or professional runner, proper breathing can have a significant effect on your performance. Relaxation breathing can help a runner because this type of controlled breathing eases muscle tension, helps your limbs move smoother and increases the oxygen your muscles get.

Check your leg and foot technique – A common mistake among runners is to heel strike. Such style of running is not only inefficient, but generates sudden and large impact that in the long run affects the knees and muscles. Runners must gradually adapt to mid-foot strike by letting the toes touch the ground gently, the heel landing softly and immediately push off from the ground.

To help runners easily transition to mid-foot strike, they can now lace up a pair of Skechers GOrun – a new minimalistic lightweight shoe line that integrates the revolutionary mid-foot strike technology.

Skechers GOrun’s mid-foot strike technology is designed to enhance the natural running performance of runners by positioning the body for an efficient mid-foot strike so that you run faster, stronger and longer.

By keeping these basic tips in mind and sporting on a pair of Skechers GOrun, runners can definitely feel the big difference in their performance as they can now run longer, faster and stronger. This event is also sponsored by Globe, 100 Plus, Vitamilk, Cherifer Premium, Futuro, Gerry’s Grill and Chris Sports, with media partners Juice.ph, Takbo.ph, Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc. and other running blogger friends.

Skechers GOrun also gave runners a chance to try out the new lightweight running shoe at their booth in the Globe Run 4 Home event held last March 25, 2012 at the Cebu International Convention Center.

  • Powerade Ion4, the Complete Sports Drink Launched

Powerade has just released their new product, the ION4.  It is a revolutionary sports drink that comprises 4 Ions instead of 2 compared to other sports drinks in the market.  For more information, please read through the presser below:

Powerade Ion4, the Complete Sports Drink Launched
Elite Athletes Lead the Hydration Revolution
VISJust when we thought our sports drink couldn’t get any better, The Coca-Cola Company proves otherwise.

This 2012, the visionary behind some of the world’s most successful beverage brands is once again raising the bar with a breakthrough in hydration and fuel replenishment: new POWERADE ION4® with Advanced Electrolyte System. Scientifically-developed through years of research and field testing, it boasts of a new and upgraded formula trusted by top sportsmen across the USA, Canada, Europe, Latin America and Asia. Now, it has finally come to the Philippines, ready to begin a revolution in hydration.

“Athletes and the growing population of sports and fitness enthusiasts in the Philippines are ready to level their game up.  Some tend to believe that the way to do this is by buying the latest sports gears and equipment. But we must remember that our most important gear is our own body. We need to make sure to properly take care of our ‘inner gear’. And thus, in order to achieve our goals, we need a hydration partner that provides us with the essential things we need in order to perform better. Other sports drinks have two ions. This new formula has four. POWERADE ION4® is complete with the 4 electrolytes in the same ratio typically lost in sweat. That is why we are bringing new Powerade Ion4 in the country- to empower you to complete your game with the complete sports drink,” says Teejae Sonza, Group Brand Manager for Hydration, Coca-Cola Philippines.

But the question is: why should we take on the challenge to switch from incomplete to complete? New POWERADE ION4® helps replenish fluid losses and the four key electrolytes in the same ratio typically lost in sweat: sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. It also contains carbohydrates at 15 calories per 100mL. POWERADE ION4® encourages the body to absorb fluid and maintain fluid balance. Carbohydrates are replaced as well, supplying your working muscles with fuel, helping you sustain mental and physical performance as you exercise. To help you fight off dehydration, POWERADE ION4®doesn’t switch your thirst receptors off prematurely. It keeps you feeling thirsty until you’re properly rehydrated.

When sweating, the body loses more than just water. It loses these electrolytes which are important in exercise. The importance of each was reviewed by The American College of Sports Medicine, American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada and it was learned that: Sodium is a critical electrolyte, which helps you sweat effectively and aids in muscle contraction; Potassium, on the other hand, is important in the overall energy metabolism; Third of the four key ions is calcium, which essential for overall bone metabolism; Lastly, magnesium plays a vital role in regulating cardiovascular and neuromuscular functions to sustain your performance. Drinking Powerade Ion4, completely packed with these four vital ions, is the most effective way to replace fluid and fuel losses.

Powerade is a trusted partner of many sports organizations in the country and the world. In fact, it is the official hydration partner of the 2012 Olympic athletes in London. Such quality product could only be represented by a breakthrough team of ambassadors; four of the country’s elite athletes in the name of multi-awarded runner and coach, Rio Dela Cruz, top fitness maven Chinggay Andrada, champion basketball player David Semerad and international football player, Neil Etheridge. Sonza proudly says: “We have selected these exceptional individuals to represent Powerade Ion4 for very obvious reasons. We all know they are not only on top of their game, they are also all well-admired achievers. But most of all, they know their respective sports by heart and are very much passionate in improving and achieving further. They would never settle for anything less than complete. That’s the kind of attitude and spirit our brand has. It is always up for greater challenges and it always aims to gain complete power. With them, we have a dream team.”

With their expert know-how in their respective sport and on the importance of proper hydration, they will lead the nation, hardcore athletes and casual sportsmen alike, to conquer their athletic ambitions and step their game up with the help of Powerade Ion4’s improved formulation.

“Proper hydration is very important in sports. I used and tested Powerade Ion4 in my training, competition and organized races and I believe this product will help elevate my performance as well as other runners in the country. To have all the essential components to level up our performance- this is what we all need,” says Rio.

Powerade Ion4 is available in Mountain Blast, Orange Burst and Silver Charge in the new easy-grip 500mL bottles. The Mountain Blast and Silver Charge variants are also available in sports caps, perfect for rehydrating during exercise.

  • My Skechers GOrun Shoe Experience

The red running shoes has been with me day one of 2012 and I’ve used it for training here at our village park.  I’m grateful for Skechers Philippines for giving me an opportunity to try GOrun and experience the technology and innovation these babies have.

Before anything else, I would like to introduce you first to my pair:

What is it in these shoes?

    GOimpulse Sensors
Independent circular sensors give your feet 360 degree responsive flexibility.

    Radically Lightweight
6.9 oz for men and 4.9 oz for women.  No extra material.  No extra weight.  Nothing to slow you down.

    SmartShoe
Curved bottom shifts the point of impact forward to create mid-foot strike and promote natural motion.

    Advanced Resalyte Technology
Proprietary lightweight. injection-molded compound with memory retention.

    Barefoot Last
Organic natural last – wider through the ball of the foor with a lower heel drop – - moves the center of pressure forward.

    DSC00977

    My Concern:
My only concern before I got hold of them, “Will I not suffer pain under my foot because the shoes are way too thin and flat?”  Because this is the first time that I’ll be donning a minimalist shoe.

    My First Impression:
Aside from the bright colors they have (which I love), I liked the feeling that I can wiggle my toes inside the shoes because of the wide toe box and you can really feel the air flowing inside the shoes.

    My Views About The Shoes:

    • They are really lightweight.
    • I love the current available colors.  This is actually my first bright-colored pair.
    • Roomy toe box that allows me to move my toes while standing and walking.
    • They are extremely flexible and allows you to use your feet and allow it to help you move forward.
    • For someone who was used to using thick soles like me, using these shoes will need you to do some adjustments.  So proper break in is needed.
    • Since it has thin soles, my first step on sharp stones was a shock! Since then I try not to pass by rough roads.  Apparently, I got used to it and didn’t mind stepping on stones once in a while.
    • It caused pain on my calves during break in probably because I changed my foot strike.  Tip:  Follow the barefoot run training.  It really helped me to adjust faster on these shoes.
    • I’ve worn these shoes with and without socks.  No blisters or signs of.
    • It helped me run uphill better.
    • Did not feel any pain under my feet even with the thin soles that come with it.
    • After using it for trainings and a race, the soles are still okay and no signs of early tears.
    • The shoes comes with 2 pairs of laces, one white and the other red.  I think it is dependent on your shoe color.
    • It does not have the awkward and the bar-like feel of the SmartShoe compared to the ProSpeed; felt it only on the first ride.
    • The cut heel of the shoes makes it perfect for driving too! :)
    • They dry easily after washing.
    • Just recently I used the pair during the Go Natural Run in BGC and I’m pleased with the results and how I was able to finish the race relaxed and not feeling any soreness from my legs.

    Other:

    • If you are more comfortable with shoes with cushioning, try using their ProSpeed.  I’ve tried running on them on treadmill during the launch; it will give you the same effect of  mid-foot running but with proper cushioning.
    • I usually run late afternoon till night.  Maybe reflectors can be added on the next models. :)
    • Add more colors please!!!!
    • The price of the GOrun shoes are cheaper compared to other leading brands of running shoes.
    • Will I recommend it? Of course.  This is one of the most comfortable running shoes I’ve had and one of my favorites.

For  more information about the Skechers GOrun shoes, you may visit their websote at http://www.skechers.com/info/go-run or their Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/SkechersPhilippines and http://www.facebook.com/SkechersFitnessPhilippines

  • I’m Running With Piolo on Sunday. How About You?

It was not the usual lazy afternoon for me last Friday as we were invited to witness a presscon of Timex with Mr. Piolo Pascual.

We were fortunate to get invited and we’re given a chance to ask Piolo about his running career and here are some of his revelations:

    • He doesn’t eat pork and beef but he needs to bring back the beef because he tends to become really thin when training
    • He never thought that sub-Piolo will ever be coined and become a benchmark for runners
    • He will do a marathon soon and he is preparing for it (I know where)
    • Race regimen: Stretch before and after a race
    • He trains in UP and always (looks) serious when he does
    • Training is part of his lifestyle so despite his busy schedule, he makes sure to stick to his training

I also want to share with you some shots that I was able to take during the presscon:

All bloggers who were there with me really had fun during the launch!  And we would like to thank Ms. Gemma Racraquin Pagsibigan and Mr. Avi of Timex for inviting us.  Til next time! :)

The 2012 Timex Run registration is extended until January 18, 2012 at participating stores.  For more information, you may refer to http://runningenthusiast.net/2011/11/28/timex-run-2012-final-details/.  Also, Timex is giving away 35 watches to lucky participating runners on race day.

  • The Riovana Experience

Here’s a sneak peak of what’s inside coach Rio’s store in Bonifacio High Street.

Just recently, a group of bloggers were invited for Riovana’s launch and we were taken to a tour and showed us what it is for runners/shoppers.

The store has three parts the main store where you get to shop for your running gears and accessories.  Second part is called sole searching where you can use their lockers and bathrooms (for a minimal fee) after you train around BGC.  Third is sole healing, a massage/recovery center for runners, where you can have your pre and post run treatment/s; of course you have to consult a doctor first for proper diagnosis and treatment plan.  A team of professionals are ready to assist you in the likes of doctors Gar Eufemio, Jun Rafanan and Philip Tan-Gatue; Jim Saret, their conditioning specialist; together with a group of nurses and physical therapists.

Welcoming all guests and giving a brief orientation
    free gait and foot analysis
Vener is giving it a try
    at the second floor
    reception area of sole healing

Dr. Eufemio giving an orientation on Riovana's treatment services
    ultrasound and laser machines
    cryo machine

Riovana will help each and every runner achieve his or her own running nirvana by providing them with the right information, gears, apparels and shoes, together with the right facilities for training and post relaxation.

Let us all visit Riovana and experience the sole of running. See you!

  • adidas KOTR Race Results and Discussion

    PLEASE SCROLL
    DOWN

    SCROLL DOWN
    FURTHER

    Where is it???

How many times have you been driven to a site where they promise to give you YOUR race results but end up like you came inside a hole and not getting anything?  Where you will be asked to CLICK HERE but all you get is a DEAD END?

Be not fooled by bogus sites.  Sites where only ‘hits’ matter (to earn).  Sites that copy contents from other blogs or websites.

OFFICIAL RACE RESULTS are released by the ORGANIZERS or OWNERS of the race.  Please be patient and they will notify you or via their websites if they have released the official copies.

‘Discussions’ were made to be a venue for runners to vent their concerns or experiences (good or bad) about the race but not a venue para magmurahan and magbastusan.  We still need to practice respect and understanding.  Moderators are there to ‘moderate’ and let every one know that foul words are not part of a healthy conversation.  Besides we are runners and there is this certain feeling of happiness every after a race or crossing the finish line.  So why use such harsh words?

My point is HUWAG MAGPALOKO and RESPECT EACH OTHER.

Hope you had fun running the adidas KOTR 2011 and see you on your next race.  And NO, I am not releasing any race results for KOTR.  Me together with other blogger friends are just driving a point.  :)

    Keep on running!
