  • Something New in the Market : Salomon XR Mission

New to trail running? Looking for a good pair that will help you transition from road to trails?  The Salomon XR Mission may be the right pair for you.  Read the presser below:

    - 0 -

Salomon - Door To TrailSalomon, the innovative outdoor brand, Introduces XR Mission, all terrain trail running shoes with specific men’s and women’s designs and constructions. XR Mission is for runners who train regularly and vary their workouts.

XR Mission 1Light, flexible, unbelievably comfortable, the XR Mission is the newest member of Salomon’s award-winning XR family of door to trail running shoes. “The XR Mission is a trail running shoe for people who want to take their training seriously and want lightweight and flexibility,” explains Jeff Dill, Salomon’s Product Line Manager for Trail Running Footwear.

XR Mission 2The XR Mission is not simply a slimmed-down version of the very popular (but higher mileage) XR Crossmax. New from the ground up, XR Mission is light and responsive with a women’s specific version. The heart of the shoe is the OS muscle and tendon, Salomon’s patented cushioning midsole and energy returning tendon system. It cushions shocks while improving heel to toe transition, making the shoe simply easier to run in. With a Contagrip™ outsole, XR Mission naturally adapts to variances in terrain, aproviding great grip and rebound on any surface.

XR Mission has a host of comfort features that specifically address the most critical issues runners typically contend with. Sensiflex™ is a soft mesh fabric, coated with flexible TPU and placed on the metatarsal area of the foot. This provides great foot

support in the forefoot, but reduces bunions that occur in about 30% of runners. Add internal Sensifit and Quicklace, and the Mission adapts comfortably to almost any foot.

XR is also specifically tailored to the morphology and motion of men and women, respectively. XR Mission Women is the first shoe built with Women’s Specific Ride. In addition to a specific last shape, asymmetrical fit that wraps medially to support a higher arch and taller instep, common among women, and thicker foam around the heel, XR Mission Women has more and deeper flex grooves to accommodate a lighter average weight and more rigid foot, also common in women. “Developing the XR Mission was very much two different projects,” explains Dill. “Although they look similar, it was critical throughout the process to define specific fit and performance characteristics for each gender. We have given women a shoe that is designed for them in every way.”

The Primer Group of Companies, Asia’s next retail giant, is the exclusive distributor of Salomon in the Philippines.

  • I’m Running With Piolo on Sunday. How About You?

It was not the usual lazy afternoon for me last Friday as we were invited to witness a presscon of Timex with Mr. Piolo Pascual.

We were fortunate to get invited and we’re given a chance to ask Piolo about his running career and here are some of his revelations:

    • He doesn’t eat pork and beef but he needs to bring back the beef because he tends to become really thin when training
    • He never thought that sub-Piolo will ever be coined and become a benchmark for runners
    • He will do a marathon soon and he is preparing for it (I know where)
    • Race regimen: Stretch before and after a race
    • He trains in UP and always (looks) serious when he does
    • Training is part of his lifestyle so despite his busy schedule, he makes sure to stick to his training

I also want to share with you some shots that I was able to take during the presscon:

All bloggers who were there with me really had fun during the launch!  And we would like to thank Ms. Gemma Racraquin Pagsibigan and Mr. Avi of Timex for inviting us.  Til next time! :)

The 2012 Timex Run registration is extended until January 18, 2012 at participating stores.  For more information, you may refer to http://runningenthusiast.net/2011/11/28/timex-run-2012-final-details/.  Also, Timex is giving away 35 watches to lucky participating runners on race day.

  • The Riovana Experience

Here’s a sneak peak of what’s inside coach Rio’s store in Bonifacio High Street.

Just recently, a group of bloggers were invited for Riovana’s launch and we were taken to a tour and showed us what it is for runners/shoppers.

The store has three parts the main store where you get to shop for your running gears and accessories.  Second part is called sole searching where you can use their lockers and bathrooms (for a minimal fee) after you train around BGC.  Third is sole healing, a massage/recovery center for runners, where you can have your pre and post run treatment/s; of course you have to consult a doctor first for proper diagnosis and treatment plan.  A team of professionals are ready to assist you in the likes of doctors Gar Eufemio, Jun Rafanan and Philip Tan-Gatue; Jim Saret, their conditioning specialist; together with a group of nurses and physical therapists.

Welcoming all guests and giving a brief orientation
    free gait and foot analysis

    reception area of sole healing

Riovana will help each and every runner achieve his or her own running nirvana by providing them with the right information, gears, apparels and shoes, together with the right facilities for training and post relaxation.

Let us all visit Riovana and experience the sole of running. See you!

  • Corregidor International Half Marathon 2011

Ready to be thrilled, surprised, and challenged all at the same time?  Register now for the Corregidor International Half Marathon happening on December 10, 2011 – not more than 800 runners are being eyed for the event.
I’ve read about this event last year and have heightened my curiosity of running outside Metro Manila.  It just so happen that it slipped my mind to register and before I know it, it was over.  Heard so many nice things about this event and how much they’ve enjoyed the pre and post race activities. :)   All runners have two comments for the whole event “challenging” and “breath taking” because of the various terrains they’ve encountered and not to mention the beautiful view while running.  Another thing that struck me that time was the size of the medal – it was huge compared to medals I’ve received from different races.
If last year was fun, this year’s gonna be better because I’m going to be there. :)  The organizers have prepared different activities for the runners and hopefully I can share them with you in brief on this entry.

    CONCEPT
The first Corregidor International Half Marathon was conceptualized with the vision of making it one of the premiere and much-awaited races in the country.   It was held last December 19, 2010 to take advantage of the cool, crisp weather prevailing over that period.  The Corregidor International Half Marathon is one of the final major races of the year.  For this edition the catchphrase will be “Champions Chase” to signify that the challenge has intensified.

    EVENT DESIGN

    • Will cover a total distance of 21.0975 Km.
    • It will run from the north side of the island at the Lorcha Dock heading to the west access of Malinta Tunnel passing through its entire length, to head out to the tails side of the island.
    • The first half of the race will include the ascent to the Summit Hill with a direct view of the beachfront leading to the Japanese Memorial site en route to the halfway point at the YMCA Parade Grounds.
    • The finish point of the race is at the South dock where the first 21 finishers will be hailed by canon blasts in unison with the lauding strong jets of West Philippine Sea breeze and the resounding clasps of waves smashing the docks breakwater.
    • This is the toughest foot race in the country in terms of the course and technical rules.
    • There will be 3 curfew pints along the course:  at the 5K point (45 mins), 10K (1H 35 mins) and finally at the 15K (2H 30 mins.
    • All runners who have not crossed any of the these points within the curfew shall be cleared out from the course by the designated race marshals and will be given a Certificate of Participation.
    • There will be no finish time cut-off for the race, however.  All runners who have successfully crossed cut-of points and managed to finish the entire 21K distance will be awarded with the CIHM Medallion and Finisher’s Certificate.

    • A proof of age will be required upon registration.  If you are below 18 years old, a parental consent and a physician’s certificate of fitness for athletic participation for applicants beyond 70 years old.
    • CIHM is an international event open to all nationalities.  However, foreign nationals who are not residents of the Philippines, upon finishing in the top 3 places, must present a clearance from DOLE to claim their prizes.

    SIDE EVENT

    • There will be a 10K race for running aficionado and will be billed as “10K Challenge”.
