  • adidas Presents 360° Ventilation Running Experience with Latest Climacool® Running Shoe

Don’t you just wish that there’s a pair of running shoes that could help wick sweat and keep our feet dry while running during this warm, summer season? Summer makes us extra sweaty and same is true with our feet. We need something that will keep them dry and allow us to go further and run comfortably. Yes, moisture due to sweaty feet coupled with our hot and humid weather could easily produce sweat blisters and we don’t like that, right?

the running enthusiast david beckham adidas climacool_1_revolution_M__01

The answer to our needs is here! adidas has just released their most breathable, sleekest, most flexible and their best 360-degree ventilated running shoes – the adidas Climacool® revolution. It has a midsole ventilation frame and a cool CLIMA upper in 3D layered mesh. These new ventilation channels across the outsole and the use of Climacool® material on the upper of the shoe helps provide ventilation from all sides, helps evaporate sweat, and reduces thermal stress that help improve our running experience. It also has a special lining called COOLEVER from a clover-shaped yarn that also gives that extra boost to coolness and giving that different level of comfort as we hit the warm pavement.

  • Post Event: Run Against Cancer Charity Run

Charity Run Gives Hope to Cancer Patients,
    Pushes Through Amidst Security Jitters

Amidst security jitters following the Boston Marathon bombing, Run Against Cancer charity run for indigent cancer patients successfully pushed through as planned on April 20, 2013 at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig.

the running enthusiast - run against cancer

“We had to infuse more friends from the police to protect the public as well as guarantee the safety of our runners,” said Dr. Charity Gorospe, Corridor of Hope’s adviser and St. Luke’s Cancer Institute-BGC’s director.

Running on wheelchair and kiddie strollers, cancer survivors, patients, and their families joined about 3,000 other runners of Corridor of Hope, the Cancer Support Group of St. Luke’s Cancer Institute. The successful charity event was also presented by SKYJET Airlines and supported by the Department of Health (DOH).

In his message, DOH Assistant Secretary Eric Tayag underscored that “RUN AGAINST CANCER is not only a good event to raise funds for the benefit of indigent cancer patients, it is also a good advocacy campaign to raise awareness on cancer and also to promote Filipino healthy lifestyle.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Gorospe inspired cancer patients and their families by encouraging them to patiently go through their healing journey with hope in their hearts.
“Corridor of Hope believes that there is no medicine like hope. Thus, going through the cancer treatment process without losing hope means consciously choosing to side with healing and recovery,” said Dr. Gorospe. “A patient’s positive attitude certainly works well with the management of the disease,” she added.

Aside from Asec Tayag and Dr. Gorospe, the event was also attended by various personalities including DLSU Lady Spiker Michele Gumabao, actress Karylle, Philippine Volcanoes’ Andrew Wolff and Chris Everingham, young generation of talents from ABSCBN’s Star Magic Circle, medical practitioners, corporate partners, other cancer support groups, cancer survivors, cancer patients and their families.

  • 7,000 Runners Take The Streets For Outbreak Manila

Taguig City, Philippines— Seven thousand runners took to the streets of Bonifacio Global City last April 13, 2013 for the most thrilling Outbreak Manila yet. Outbreak Manila is a 5-kilometer zombie infested thrill run where participants race against zombies and obstacles before crossing the coveted finish line.

the running enthusiast outbreak manila BGC 2 c

What makes this installment of Outbreak Manila the craziest of all? Angelo Cruz of Runtertainment Inc. says, “This night run has really got that apocalyptic feel. The team also went out to level-up on obstacles that challenged our participants, especially those who have taken on Outbreak Manila several times. Plus, the zombies are extra excited this time—enough to incite panic to even the most experienced thrill runner”.

the running enthusiast outbreak manila BGC 2 e
Two weeks before the date, Outbreak Manila made a call for a fresh horde of zombies to fuel excitement. The zombie auditions were overwhelming, leaving Outbreak Manila with a full bench of applicants raring to get their hands on the life flags of participants. Despite the thrill, Outbreak Manila is a non-contact run where any form of physical contact is not allowed. The main objective is to finish the 5k route in the fastest time with at least one of three life flags intact.

the running enthusiast outbreak manila BGC 2 d

Now, what is next for Outbreak Manila? “We never know where the Outbreak spreads next. All I know is, we’ll be chasing you again soon enough”, adds Cruz.

  • Kimchi, The Super Food

Stinky and weird. That’s how most people would describe my now favorite Kimchi (or kimchee). I first encountered this Korean dish a couple of years ago in a Japanese carinderia in Cebu where they have a vegetable dish where kimchi is the main ingredient. Also, in Bon Chon‘s kimchi coleslaw recently.

    What is Kimchi?

    courtesy of perfecthealthdiet.com
    courtesy of perfecthealthdiet.com

Kimchi is basically fermented vegetable, usually cabbage or raddish, that uses a different variety of spices or seasonings. Traditionally these are buried underground to make the fermentation process better thus making the vegetables taste better.  This is considered Korea‘s national dish.

Why is it called the Super Food?

According to Health.com, Kimchi is loaded with vitamins A, B, and C, but its biggest benefit may be in its “healthy bacteria” called lactobacilli, found in fermented foods like kimchi and yogurt. This good bacteria helps with digestion, plus it seems to help stop and even prevent yeast infections, according to a recent study. And more good news: Some studies show fermented cabbage has compounds that may prevent the growth of cancer.

Some studies also say that it has a high fiber, lower calorie content. Therefore, it could aid in weight loss apart from having a good digestive system.

You can mix kimchi to different dishes. I eat kimchi as an add on to my vegetable salad and the kimchi itself is my the dressing. It’s a good side dish too when eating fried foods. But some say it’s good with stews, fried rice, and omelette.

They say the “authentic” kimchi tastes a  lot better, but  I don’t know where to get or buy it.  :(   Any suggestions?  For now, I’m going to settle with the bottled kimchi purchased in SM Hypermart.

    Try it!
